FloodSax vs traditional sandbags

The many reasons you should choose FloodSax over sand bags for flood mitigation

FloodSax

  • Easy to store and can be vacuumed-packed to save even more room.
  • Always there for peace of mind to prevent floods. No panic to buy sandbags if a flood is forecast.
  • Can be expanded in water right next to where you need them and stay taut until flood subsides.
  • Lightweight before they are used with the standard bag weighing just 0.2kg (7 ounces) so can be used by people who would not be able to lift sandbags.
  • Thousands can be quickly transported in a van, saving on fuel, wages and manpower.
  • Can be stored in small depots around the area, not one huge central store so can be taken even more quickly to the scene.
  • One can be expanded and put down the toilet to block it from filthy water being forced up by the floodwater backing up through the drains and sewer.
  • FloodSax don’t need sand - one of the earth’s natural resources - and so saves the environment

Sandbags

  • Must be replaced regularly costing thousands of pounds for big companies and local authorities that need palletised sand bags ready all year round for any emergency.
  • Can deteriorate if stored for a long time, especially in cold, damp warehouses.
  • Exceptionally unwieldy to lift and handle with all kinds of health, safety and manual handling technique problems for staff who have to use them at businesses.
  • Messy with the sand easily washed out and adding to all the damage if they burst.
  • Difficult and expensive to transport anywhere due to their weight. One box of 20 FloodSax® is equal to 20 sandbags on a pallet.
  • Need a lot of people to move any number of sandbags anywhere

WHY CHOOSE FLOODSAX VS. SANDBAGS?
  • Fewer FloodSax are needed to create a protective barrier equivalent to a sandbag barrier.
  • Unlike sandbags, which are heavy & bulky (20kg per bag), FloodSax are light (210g per bag), take up little space, & can be handled by everyone.
  • FloodSax are guaranteed for 5 years before use: sandbags are generally guaranteed for 3 months.
  • Sandbags risk being punctured & torn & become even more complicated to evacuate. FloodSax can be thrown in the trash safely without creating any pollution.

Manual
  • FloodSax should be placed against each other & then on top of each other, to create an effective flood barrier.
  • For outdoor use, it is recommended to ballast, pin or block FloodSax to prevent them from being swept away by a gust of wind or a wave.
  • Soak them in clean water before installation or hose them down after installation. You can also place heavy stones or wooden slats on the barrier of bags to secure them.
  • If the water reaches nearly 45cm in height, it is recommended to lean the barrier against a wall or any solid structure to secure it. For a flood between 45 & 105cm in height, it is recommended to set up 2 rows of anti-flood bags one behind the other. Beyond 105cm, triple the installation.
  • Indoors, FloodSax can be installed while still dry as a preventive measure, for instance, behind a garage door that is at risk of taking on water.

Usage Tips
  • FloodSax can be reused but we advise against it: most flood water is black water, loaded with bacteria which is absorbed by the FloodSax.

FloodSax bags are white for a reason - as an indicator of cleanliness: in case of colour
